I found my veteran on this list. How do I do more research on him?

While the PSHS does not keep individual records of Philippine Scouts, there are a few ways you can do this. You can:

  • Request his records from the National Personnel Records Center.

    • Please take note of his Army Serial Number and rank when filling out Form-180. This will help in the process.

    • If his records survived the Philippine Defense Campaign, survived the 1973 National Archives fire, and are available, the NPRC can make copies of your veteran’s record for a nominal fee.

  • See if the National Archives has his digital enlistment records.

  • See if he appears on the Pacific POW Roster.

My veteran definitely served with the Philippine Scouts. Why isn't he on this list?

This is the roster that the U.S. Army compiled on June 28, 1945, covering the Philippine Scouts who reported back to, reenlisted with, or recently enlisted with the U.S. Army. There are a few reasons why your veteran may not appear on this list:

  • Your veteran had not reported back to or was still being processed by the U.S. Army at the time this roster was compiled.

  • Your veteran was MIA, KIA, or retired prior to the making of this roster.

  • Your veteran enlisted after this roster was made.

  • Your veteran has a Y last name that comes after “Yeo” or a “Z” last name. The original document did not have these pages.

Remember, the Philippine Scouts⏤a United States Army organization⏤is completely separate from the Philippine Commonwealth Army. If your veteran only served with the Philippine Commonwealth Army, he would not appear in this roster.

Can you add my Philippine Scout veteran to this roster?

Unfortunately no. We have tried to do an accurate transcription of the 1945 Philippine Scouts roster. We can, however, add your Philippine Scout to the PS Wall of Heroes. Please visit the page for instructions.

Why does my veteran have two Army Serial Numbers?

After WWII, a number of enlisted Philippine Scouts took the officer's exam and many passed. In those cases, the veteran would have their enlisted serial number and would have been assigned a new officer's serial number (begins with "O-").

Why does my veteran have two units listed with his name?

Many Scouts were reassigned during this time, whether they went from one unit to another or going from the hospital and being reassigned to their new unit. Because of all the soldiers the Army was processing at the time, there was no time to cross check all the rosters against each other and cross off those who were transferred to other units, so it would seem that the soldier served in two different units at once.

Do you have photos of certain Philippine Scout veterans?

Most likely not. We do not keep the individual records of the Philippine Scouts. Many of the photos we do have of the PS veterans were given to us by their families, relatives, and friends. If you do have photos you'd like to share, please email info@philippinescouts.org or join our Facebook Group and post your photos there there.

Why are most of the Philippine Scouts serving in Military Police units in 1945?

When the Philippine Scouts, many of them veterans of Bataan and Corregidor, reported back to the U.S. Army, they were assigned to these military police battalions as security forces, guarding military posts throughout the Philippines. They were not assigned to their original pre-WWII organizations because those units would not be reorganized until 1946.
